Red Flash Men's Soccer Team Scores NEC Road Victory at Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, Md. (Oct. 8, 2006) – Junior defender Bryce Luetzen (Denver, Colo. / Denver Lutheran) scored for the second straight match, and sophomore goalkeeper Brad Williams (San Lorenzo, Calif. / Arroyo) made one save, to lead the Saint Francis men’s soccer team to a key 1-0 Northeast Conference victory at Mount Saint Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.

Luetzen blasted a shot from 30 yards out that found the top-left netting at the 9 minute, 38 second mark for the only goal of the match to help the Red Flash end a crucial seven-match road string with a 3-1-3 record.

Saint Francis improved to 4-5-3 overall, and 1-0-2 in conference action on the season. The Red Flash will return home for a pair of NEC matches next weekend against Saint Francis-NY (3 p.m. Friday) and Long Island (1 p.m. Sunday).

“I thought this was a terrific result on the road on a very difficult field,” said Saint Francis head coach B.J. Craig. “The guys really played well despite the conditions. Bryce’s goal was a special goal and well deserved. I’m very happy that he scored a great one today. It takes a team to win these games in conference and we’re getting stronger and stronger as we get deeper into the season. We have earned a great five points in the first three matches of conference play. We are very excited about the direction we are heading.”

The Red Flash, who extended their unbeaten streak to six matches, outshot the Mount 10-9, and held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
