Mathematics Department Fellowship
A four year fellowship of $1000 per year is awarded to up to10 incoming students per year majoring in Mathematics. Prospective Fellows must have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.5, a SAT (critical reading and math) of at least 1100 or ACT of at least 24, and a letter of recommendation. Additionally the Fellowship requires the student to remain a Mathematics major, maintain good academic standing (3.0 QPA) and participate in an internship or an undergraduate research project or a study abroad experience prior to graduating. Students, as Mathematics Fellows, should also be willing to participate in outreach, tutorial or service activities.
Mathematics Undergraduate Summer Research Award
Mathematics students can receive an award to carry out Undergraduate Summer Research with a faculty mentor. The typical stipend is $2000 for the 8 week summer research program. A number of research topics are possible ranging from applied real world problems to theoretical questions.
Mathematics Department Travel AwardStudents that present at conferences can receive a monetary travel award to pay for or defray the cost of presenting at regional or national conferences. Students in the past have presented summer undergraduate research results, seminar research projects and independent study projects.
James Lieb Award
This monetary award is presented to rising sophomore or junior mathematics student that has demonstrated outstanding commitment and service to the department. It is presented in memory of Mr. James Lieb, a former member of the Math Faculty.
Mathematics Department Senior Award
This award is presented to the top senior student in the department based upon academics and service to the department.
Problem Solving Competition Award
The Mathematics Department sponsors a monthly student problem solving competition with monetary awards and the chance to represent Saint Francis University at a national problem solving competition.
