MATH DAY 2009

The LHMA is pleased to invite you to bring your high school mathematics students to the Eighth Annual Math Day, which will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2009 on the campus of Saint Francis University. Each high school is invited to bring 10-15 students accompanied by a teacher to this exciting day of exploration and adventure in mathematics. In 2008, 105 students from 8 high schools attended and teh program evaluations were excellent again! Please consider attending.
Registration will begin at 8:30 A.M. that morning, and the program will begin with a general session at 9:00 A.M. Students will be able to attend several sessions during the morning presented by high school and university faculty and industry professionals. The sessions will include interesting applications of mathematics, information about careers in mathematics, and extensions of mathematics into other disciplines. There will also be some challenging and fun activities available to all students throughout the day. The day will conclude at about 1:30 P.M. following a "Who Wants to Look Like a Millionaire" game, where every student will have the chance to win a mathematics tee shirt.
Lunch will be included in the registration fee of $10 for each student and teacher. The cost will also cover small gifts for all in atttendance and prizes for the contests; each teacher will also receive a one-year new membership or renewal in the Laurel Highlands Mathematics Alliance with their registration.
We hope you can bring some of your students who are most talented and interested in mathematics to gain new experiences. Our hope is to excite them about mathematics and provide information that will help them seek future opportunities in careers using mathematics. Please send an e-mail message as soon as possible to confirm your attendance. Because space is limited, please complete and return the school registration form below as soon as possible. Student registration forms will be sent to schools once the program sessions are scheduled. Please return the school registration form as soon as possible, but not later than Monday, March 2nd, 2009, if possible.
