Liturgical Ministries

It takes all the baptized faithful to actively worship our God during Mass.   Each participant has an irreplaceable part in using their gifts to glorify God in both the Liturgy of the Word and Eucharist.  A unique expression of these gifts occurs when students participate in the liturgical ministries listed below.

Students can sign up for one of more of these ministries at any time by contacting Campus Ministry at 814-472-3172.  A special effort is made at the beginning of the school year in September to find those who are interested in participating.  Training sessions are then held to equip students to perform their ministry well.

Ministry of Lectors
- are those who are chosen by the Christian community and entrusted by God  to proclaim His transforming word  during the church's worship.  To do this, they are expected to read and reflect upon the scriptures in prayer so as to be effective instruments for God. During the Mass, they lead the procession into church, proclaim the first and second reading, and read the intentions.

Eucharistic Ministers
-  are those who assist the presider in distributing the Body and Blood of the Lord to the congregation in a proper manner. After the Mass, they are expected to purify the liturgical vessels and put them away.

Music Ministers
- are instrumentalists, vocalists and group leaders who immeasurably enhance the worship experience by sharing their gift of liturgical music.  In this way, they lead our faith community to sing in one accord to our loving God.  Volunteers are expected to commit themselves to a group that ministers at a given weekend Mass each week and the associated practices that their group decides upon.
