Saint Francis Leads Field After Day One Of Women's Golf Championship

Hershey, Pa. (April 27, 2007) –  The first round of the Northeast Conference women’s golf tournament teed off this morning at a damp and soggy Hershey East Golf Course.  Defending champion Saint Francis University took charge of the field, leading with a score of 330. Central Connecticut State stands in second place, ten off the pace (340).

Reigning individual champion, Saint Francis junior Samantha Milosh (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) set the bar early, carding a conference-best 36-36 to record a one-over par 72.  Junior Emily Noelker (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) from Wagner takes the second position after posting a score of 79 (40-39).

Saint Francis senior Megan Schaffer (Richland, Pa./Eastern Lebanon) finished the first day with a mark of 84 (tied for seventh) while teammate junior Stephanie Switzer (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) landed an 86 (12th place) for the balanced Red Flash attack.

Freshman Lisa Kocin (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) shot an 88 and Kate Waghorn (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) shot a 95 to finish day in ties for 18th and 28th place, respectively.

Tee-off for the second day of the Northeast Conference women’s golf tournament is slated for 8 a.m. on Saturday. The conference championship is a three-day, 54-hole event. Team scores are calculated by adding the teams’ four lowest scores from each day. The top-10 finishers are selected as all-NEC performers
