EASTON, Pa. (Apr. 14, 2007) – Senior Craig Alvaro (Saint Thomas, Ontario / Parkside Collegiate) fired a 39-36-75 in the first round of the Lafayette College Invitational to help lead the Saint Francis men’s golf team to a fourth-place finish in a rain-shortened event at the Centre Valley Country Club.
The Red Flash took fourth with a team score of 310 in the first round. The second day of the event was canceled due to the impending bad weather due to hit the east coast on Sunday.
Lehigh took first with a 300, Bucknell (307) was second, Siena finished third (309) and Long Island (313) rounded out the top five.
Alvaro finished tied for fourth, three strokes off the pace, which was set by Bucknell’s Charles Waddell with a 2-under-par 70.
Junior Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec / Academie Les Estacades) finished 11th with a 39-37-76, senior Nick Wheeler (Ingersoll, Ontario / Ingersoll Collegiate) was 30th by carding a 39-40-79, senior Mike Hammond (London, Ontario / Catholic Central) took 39th with a 40-40-80, and junior Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas) finished in 82nd with a 41-44-85.
The Red Flash will be back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Mount St. Mary’s Spring Invite.
