Saint Francis Men’s Golfers Finish Second at Lafayette Invitational
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (Apr. 10, 2006) – Led by junior Nick Wheeler (Ingersoll, Ontario), the Saint Francis men’s golf team finished second in a 20-team field at the Lafayette College Spring Invitational, held on Sunday at the Center Valley Club.
The first round of action was washed out on Saturday, leaving the 20-team field with an 18-hole race to a team title.
Wheeler led the Red Flash charge with a round of 73 to finish in a tie for third in the individual race. Siena won the team title with a 300, while Saint Francis was three strokes behind.
Sophomore Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario) finished in a tie for 13th with a 75, while sophomore Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec) and junior Mike Hammond (London, Ontario) tied for 25th with a 77. Junior Craig Alvaro (Saint Thomas, Ontario) finished one stroke behind with a round of 78.
The Red Flash will wrap up their regular season by competing in the IUP Cecil Spadafora Invitational on Wednesday. They will compete at the Northeast Conference Championships May 6-7 in Orlando, Fla.
