SUNSET BEACH, N.C. (May 4, 2007) – Saint Francis junior Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec / Academie) carded a scorching 33 on the back nine to open the first round of the 2007 Northeast Conference Men’s Golf Championship with an opening-round 70 to top all competitors.

Foisy, who is the defending NEC individual titlist, and three other teammates are in the Top-16 after Day 1, leading the defending NEC champions to a second-place standing with a first round 297. The Red Flash are two strokes off Monmouth’s lead of 295, while Sacred Heart is in third (298) and Long Island is in fourth (302).

Freshman Mike Magalski (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) is tied for 10^th after carding a first-round 75, and senior Nick Wheeler (Ingersoll, Ontario / Ingersoll Collegiate) and junior Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas) are both tied for 16^th with a 76. Freshman Chad Walker (St. Thomas, Ontario / Central Elgin Collegiate Institute) is sitting in 31^st with a first-round 79.

Day 2 of the 2007 NEC Men’s Golf Championship will commence at 7:56 a.m. on Saturday. The conference championship is a three-day, 54-hole event. Team scores are calculated by adding the team’s four lowest scores from each day. The top-10 finishers are selected as all-NEC performers.
