Red Flash Men’s Golf Team in 27th Place After Day 1 at NCAA Regionals
CHARDON, Ohio. (May 18, 2006) – Sophomore Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Ontario, Canada/Academie Les Estacades) carded a 4-over-par 75 to lead the Saint Francis men’s golf team on Day 1 of the NCAA Central Regionals, which began Thursday at the Sand Ridge Golf Club in Chardon, Ohio.
The Red Flash currently sit in 27th place with a plus-40 324. Oklahoma State leads the team race with a minus-4 280.
Round 2 begins at 7:30 a.m. on Friday.
Foisy finished Day 1 eight strokes off the pace, while junior Mike Hammond (London, Ontario, Canada/Catholic Central) followed with a plus-9 80, junior Nick Wheeler (Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada/Ingersoll Collegiate) is right behind with an 81, and sophomore Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario, Canada/A.B. Lucas) and junior Craig Alvaro (Saint Thomas, Ontario, Canada/Parkside Collegiate) finished Round 1 with 88 and 89, respectively.
The Red Flash earned their way into their first-ever NCAA Regional by winning the school’s first Northeast Conference men’s golf championship two weeks ago. Head coach Bob Hahn was named the conference’s coach-of-the-year for his team’s efforts
