LITTLESTOWN, Pa. (Oct. 28, 2006) – Senior Nick Wheeler (Ingersoll, Ontario / Ingersoll Collegiate) and the Saint Francis University men’s golf team finished the first round of the Mount Saint Mary’s Fall Invitational in a two-way tie for third place, stroking a team 313. Currently, they are just five strokes behind tournament leader Bucknell (308) and two strokes behind second place Fordham. Long Island shot the SFU’s equal to force the tie in the three spot.
Wheeler finished the first round in third place individually, firing 77 in the opening round. He will open round two just two off the pace trailing only Keita Aoki of Bucknell (75) and Greg Nicolson of Long Island (76).
Rounding out the Red Flash are Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas ) (T10th place, 78), Mike Magalski (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) (T10th place, 78), Craig Alvaro (Saint Thomas, Ontario, Canada / Parkside Collegiate) (T19th place, 80), and Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec / Academie Les Estacades) (T27th place, 83). Another SFU golfer, Chad Walker (St. Thomas, Ontario / Central Elgin Collegiate Institute) (T23, 81), is not participating in the team competition.
