Men's Golf Jumps Eight Positions on Final Day of Keenan Invitational

OLEAN, N. Y. (Sept. 25, 2006) – All four of Saint Francis’ scoring golfers finished with a final round of 71 or better to help the Red Flash men’s golf team jump from 13th to a fifth-place finish at the 18th Leo Keenan Invitational on Monday at Bartlett Country Club.

After wrapping up Sunday’s first day of action, defending Northeast Conference champion, Saint Francis, sat in 13th out of 15 teams in the field. However, the Red Flash came storming back with a tournament-best round of 281 to finish 308-281-589, good for a fifth-place showing.

Junior Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec / Academie Les Estacades) fired a 1-over-par 71 to finish tied for 11th with 75-71-145, and freshman Mike Magalski (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) rebounded from a tough first day to shoot a 1-under-par 69 to finish 77-69-146. Foisy and Magalski tied for a team-best finish of 11th.

Tournament-host St. Bonaventure won the event with a 289-289-578, followed by Siena in second (292-289-581), Rider in third (293-289-582), and Ottawa in fourth (296-288-584).

Senior Mike Hammond (London, Ontario / Catholic Central) carded a two-round total 78-71-149 to take 24th, junior Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas) shot a final round even-par to finish 80-70-150 in 31st place, and senior Nick Wheeler (Ingersoll, Ontario / Ingersoll Collegiate) finished in 54th with a 78-76-154.

All five Red Flash golfers playing in the tournament finished with a better score in the final round than they shot in the first round.

The Red Flash head into a week off before heading to the Robert Morris Colonial Classic on Oct. 9 and 10
