Foisy Claims Medalist Honors at IUP Invitational
INDIANA, Pa. (April 12, 2006) – Saint Francis University sophomore men’s golfer Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec) fired an even-par round of 71 and defeated Allegheny’s Drew Denton on the first playoff hole to take the individual title at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Cecil Spadafora Invitational on Wednesday.
The Red Flash placed fourth in the 15-team field with a 15-over par 299 team total, five shots behind tournament champion Clarion. The host Indians finished in second place with a 12-over 296, followed by Saint Vincent’s 298.
Foisy finished in a tie for second at last year’s IUP Invite after carding a 1-under 70 on the par 71, 6,536-yard Indiana Country Club layout.
Junior Nick Wheeler (Ingersoll, Ontario) shot a 2-over 73 to tie for sixth. Junior Craig Alvaro (Saint Thomas, Ontario) tied for 31st with a 6-over 77, while sophomore Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario) tied for 38th with a 7-over 78. Junior Mike Hammond (London, Ontario) finished in a tie for 61st with a 12-over 83.
Saint Francis will look for its first league crown at its next tournament, the Northeast Conference Championship, to be held at Disney’s Palm Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., on May 6 and 7.
