Saint Francis’ Foisy Named Northeast Conference Men’s Golfer-of-the-Year

LORETTO, Pa. (June 19, 2006) – Saint Francis golfer Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec/Academie Les Estacades) capped off his sophomore season by being named the Northeast Conference’s Men’s Golfer-of-the-Year, according to a vote of league head coaches.

Also for Saint Francis, sophomore Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario/A.B. Lucas) was named to the 2006 all-NEC Men’s Golf Team, a reward for finishing in a tie for second place at the NEC Championship. Sophomore Samantha Milosh (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) and junior Megan Schaeffer (Richland, Pa./Eastern Lebanon) were also named to the 2006 all-NEC Women’s Golf Team for their efforts in leading the Red Flash women to their sixth conference title. Milosh won the women’s individual title after firing a tournament record-low round of 69 to finish at 81-69-150 for a two-stroke victory. Schaeffer finished eight at the conference championship. In addition, Saint Francis men’s golf head coach Bob Hahn was previously announced as the winner of the NEC Men’s Golf Coach-of-the-Year.

Foisy picks up the major award after winning the individual title at the 2006 NEC Championship, where he led the Red Flash to their first-ever NEC crown. The lefty sophomore fired a tournament-low 72 on Day 1, and a 76 on Day 2, to finish with a two-stroke victory. On the season, Foisy fired 21-of-22 sub-80 rounds, including seven Top-15 performances overall. The Quebec native averaged 75.1 strokes per round this year, and also captured the individual title at the IUP Invitational in April.
