MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2006) – Senior Nick Wheeler (Ingersoll, Ontario / Ingersoll Collegiate) shot a second round 4-over-par 76 on Monday to lead the Saint Francis men’s golf team to a ninth-place finish at the 2006 Crowne Plaza Colonial Classic, hosted by Robert Morris.
Wheeler finished with a 72-76-150 to place 11th, while the Red Flash carded a 315-306-621 to finish ninth. St. Bonaventure set a tournament record to win the event with a 297-295-592.
Saint Francis will continue its fall season by competing in the Lehigh Invitational on Sunday and Monday.
Freshman Mike Magalski (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) improved four shots from Day 1 to finish in 29th place with an 80-76-156, junior Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec / Academie Les Estacades) carded a 78-79-157 to take 32nd, and junior Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas) shot a 83-75-158 to take 35th amongst Saint Francis’ scoring golfers.
Sophomore Kyle DeYulis (Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria) and senior Craig Alvaro (Saint Thomas, Ontario / Parkside Collegiate) also competed for the Red Flash. DeYulis fired a 92-84-175, while Alvaro finished with an 80-77-157.
