LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 17, 2006)– The Saint Francis University Field Hockey team came out red hot at the start of Sunday’s match versus Colgate; but an impressive offensive effort by the Raiders eventually proved to be too much for the Flash as they fell 5-2.
The Red Flash drew first blood on an unassisted goal by senior Katie Grogan (Allenwood, NJ / Wall) just 5:28 into the opening period. SFU led until the 21:27 mark when Colgate’s Katelyn Nerbonne evened the score with a goal from six yards out into the lower left corner of the net.
Colgate scored the opening tally of the second half, but the Flash answered just five minutes later on a score by junior Kati Kenyon (Glenmont, NY / Niskayuna). The goal was assisted by freshman Therese Nunnally (El Cajon, Ca / University of San Diego).
The Raiders reeled off three unanswered goals, one of those coming on a penalty shot, to set the final.
Sophomore goalkeeper Erin Reifstick (Battle Creek, MI / Saint Phillips) made a game-high 14 saves to bring her season total to 74.
Sophomore defender Erin Weaver (Hummelstown, PA / Lower Dauphin) got in on the action in goal, making two impressive saves to help keep the game within reach for the Flash.
The next game for Saint Francis is this Friday when they host Ballarmine at 7 p.m.
