Red Flash Field Hockey Team Announces 2006 Schedule
LORETTO, Pa. (July 10, 2006) – The top two finishers from the 2005 Northeast Conference field hockey season will visit Loretto this fall as part of Saint Francis University’s 2006 field hockey schedule, which was announced on Thursday by head coach Liz de Simas.
Lock Haven and Rider both finished the 2005 season 7-1 in the Northeast Conference. Lock Haven will visit DeGol Field on Oct. 15, while Rider will be in town on Oct. 27. The Red Flash will hit the road to play defending NEC Tournament champion Sacred Heart on Oct. 1.
Saint Francis will also play the first two varsity competitions this season at DeGol Field, which has received another addition since last season. Saint Francis will play host to Bucknell at 7 p.m. on Aug. 29th, before entertaining Georgetown at 6 p.m. on Sept. 1.
DeGol Field’s old press box was taken down after last fall, and has been replaced on top of a new grandstand on the east side of the field. A new track surface has also been installed.
The Red Flash will also play home games against Colgate (Sept. 17), Bellarmine (Sept. 22), Robert Morris (Oct. 6), and Monmouth (Oct. 29).
Saint Francis will travel to Drexel (Sept. 3), Albany (Sept. 8), Columbia (Sept. 10), University of Maryland-Baltimore County (Sept. 15), Siena (Sept. 29), Fairfield (Oct. 20), and Quinnipiac (Oct. 22).
The Sept. 29 date with Siena represents the Northeast Conference opener for the Red Flash.
Saint Francis returns 14 letterwinners from last season. The Red Flash had a strong spring season with a 6-7 record, including wins over Seton Hill, Mercyhurst, Slippery Rock and Juniata.
