As members of our campus-community, students are expected and strongly encouraged to involve themselves outside the classroom with teams, clubs, organizations, and other areas of campus-life in order to develop their confidence and proficiency in responsible citizenship. The Center for Student Life prides itself in being the home of student-leadership development and therefore offers a wide array of opportunities and experiences for all our students to develop the necessary skills and maturity to become fully contributing members of society.
The initiative that serves as the official umbrella for all our leadership development programming is called F.L.A.S.H., or Franciscan Leaders: Achieve, Serve, & Honor. F.L.A.S.H. provides emphasis on its four fundamental competencies:
| Franciscan Values - for understanding of ethics, morality, and social justiceLeadership Theory - for knowledge of organizational behavior and strategic leadershipDiversity Awareness - for appreciation of cultural differences and matters of globalizationCommunity Development - for action through civic engagement and responsible citizenship |

Those areas include: the Student Government Association, iLEAD (or the Institute for Leadership Education and Development), the Orientation Leaders experience, the Emerging Leaders program, and Greek Life.

F.L.A.S.H. in the works...
- We are planning for the second annual F.L.A.S.H. Leadership Summit for Catholic High School students from across the state of Pennsylvania to be held in May of 2010. This event will introduce young student-leaders to the values and principles of F.L.A.S.H. and will provide opportunities to apply knowledge, skills, and understanding of the Summit's theme: Servant-Leadership.
- We are working in collaboration with members of the SFU Faculty to develop a comprehensive, interdisciplinary minor in Leadership Studies to be available to all students regardless of their chosen major.
- The University has established the first-ever Leadership House as a capstone-experience to the Emerging Leaders program. This experience will provide an opportunity in independent living coupled with opportunities to engage both campus and community through self-designed projects and outreach efforts. You can view a snapshot of the Leadership House from the Office of Residence Life web-page.
