With the cooperation of the weather, the first DiSepio Institute 5K Fitness Challenge on Saturday, November 1, was a huge success! Over 200 people, including adults and children, attended and participated in promoting health and well-being both in the Saint Francis campus community and in the broader local community as well. This event would not have been successful without the help of the many volunteers that turned out to help. Melinda Krimmel, event coordinator, extends her thanks to the following for their assistance: University Police, Physical Plant, Torvian Dining Services, Bob Gillespie and the Loretto Fire Department, Art Remillard, Lori Schrift, Bob Krimmel, Jim Brazill, Mike Rumbaugh, men's volleyball, track and field, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and Alpha Phi Delta. The morning began with the 2-mile walk, with 20 participants. Following the walk, 25 children raced in the Tot Trot, and it was a blast to watch! This event was summed up best by Cara Fox, PA of the SFU Student Health Center, who stated, "The DiSepio Tot Trot was the first running event my daughters ever participated in. They loved it so much they wanted to run again, which they did! It was a wonderful first experience for them because there was no emphasis on winning, just on having fun and being healthy!" The 5K run/walk was the last event of the day. There were over 160 participants that took part in this event, of which more than 70 were members of the Saint Francis campus community. Each participant in the 2-mile walk, Tot Trot, and 5K run/walk received a ribbon. Each medal winner was acknowledged at the breakfast following the race. Complete results are available on the right of this screen. Melinda Krimmel stated, “This event would not have been as successful without the participation of the campus community, so I want to thank everyone who participated in their respective events.” We are planning on having this event again next year, so start your training program! We hope to see you there! The Fitness Challenge was sponsored by:
