The Skinny

Devin Sweetney enters the 2007-08 season as a candidate for Northeast Conference post-season honors...682 career points and 367 rebounds are most on the current SFU roster...a knee injury prior to the 2007-08 season slowed Sweetney's progress, but he is healthy heading into 2008-09...Sweetney is a young red-shirt junior who won't turn 21 until after practice begins in October...played at same high school as current teammate Chris McFarland...Devin is a cousin of four-year NBA veteran Michael Sweetney, of the Chicago Bulls.

Sophomore Year (2007-08)

 Scored 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, and added 4 rebounds, a block and a steal in season opener against American (11/10/07)...Had 12 points, 2 rebounds, a block and a steal at Penn State (11/12/07)...Had a career high 2 blocks with 7 points and 3 rebounds vs. Morgan State (11/14/07)...had 9 points, 8 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist and 1 steal at La Salle (11/24/07)...had 11 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal vs. Youngtown State (11/28/07)...tallied a season-high 15 points and added 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in win at Bucknell (12/1/07)...had a season high 19 points, a career high 6 steals and made a career on 13 free throws on 14 attempts in NEC-opening win at Robert Morris (12/8/07)...tallied 15 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal in just 23 minutes against Lock Haven (12/15/07)...registered game-high 18 points to go with 3 rebounds and 1 assist at Duquesne (12/22/07)...had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in a career high 40 minutes against Monmouth (1/5/08)...played 40 minutes for the second straight game and posted 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block at CCSU (1/10/08)...tallied 11 points, 7 rebounds, and a season high 3 assists at Wagner (1/12/08)...made 10-of-11 attempts from the charity stripe in recording 16 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal at MSM (1/16/08)...had 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals vs. RMU (1/19/08)...had season highs in points (21) and rebounds (11) to record first doule-double of season, and added 3 assists and a steal in triple overtime victory over SFC (1/24/08)...recorded team-high 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting, and added 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in win over CCSU (1/26/08)...had 10 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists vs. LIU (2/7/08)...had 14 points, 8 rebounds and 1 block vs. RDU (2/9/08)...pitched in 9 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists in win at SFC (2/14/08).

 Freshman Year (2006-07)

Sweetney was a finalist for Northeast Conference Rookie-of-the-Year honors in 2006-07 when he led the team - and all NEC freshmen - with 13.0 ppg, 7.7 rpg and six double-doubles...was selected to the NEC all-Rookie team for his efforts...ranked 18th in the NEC in scoring, third in rebounding, and sixth in free throw percentage (.834) during freshman season...In conference games only, Sweetney finished second in rebounds (7.9 rpg) and ninth in free throw percentage (.812)...started all 29 games, and reached double figures in scoring in 22 contests...made his long-awaited debut in a Saint Francis uniform and shined with 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting, and 7-of-8 free throw shooting, in a 94-60 season-opening victory over Lock Haven (11/18/06). He added 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in the win...posted first career double-double in first game against a Division I opponent with 15 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with 5 assists, 3 steals and a block to help Red Flash defeat A-10’s St. Bonaventure (11/20/06)...contributed 9 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals against La Salle (11/25/06)...picked up first career Choice Hotels/NEC Rookie-of-the-Week after averaging 12.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 3.5 apg and 2.5 spg during games on 11/20 and 11/25...tied career high with 20 points, and also had 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block and 1 steal at Howard (11/27/06)...scored 11 points, had 5 rebounds and 2 steals against Bucknell (11/29/06)...tied career high with 20 points, and added 7 rebounds and 2 assists at Liberty (12/4/06)...made 8-of-9 free throws, including 6-of-6 in final two minutes to help SFU defeat St. Francis-NY (12/7/06)....made 12-of-12 free throw attempts in scoring 14 points and pulling down 9 rebounds in win over Liberty (12/16/06)...was named Choice Hotels/NEC Rookie-of-the-Week for third time on season (12/18/06)...posted second double-double of season with 10 points and 10 rebounds at Akron (12/19/06)...scored 11 points and added 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal vs. Duquesne (12/22/06)...had 16 points, 7 rebounds, and a block, and was 6-of-6 from the foul line at Georgia Tech (12/30/06)...picked up third career double-double with 19 points and career-tying 11 rebounds to go with 3 assists at FDU (1/11/07)...came within one rebound of another double-double with career high 22 points, 9 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal while making 9-of-12 from the foul line at LIU (1/13/07)...had 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists, and made 11-of-13 from the charity stripe, against MSM (01/18/07)...registered career highs with 22 points and 13 rebounds to go with 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block at Monmouth (1/25/07). His 13 rebounds matched the team total for Monmouth, and he had a double-double in the second half alone with 17 points and 11 rebounds...had 14 points (4-of-6 from the field, 2-of-2 on 3’s and 4-of-4 from charity stripe), 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in win over St. Francis-NY (2/15/07)...recorded fifth career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds against Wagner (2/17/07)...picked up sixth career double-double with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal in win over LIU (2/24/07)...tallied 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting, and 6 rebounds in season-ending win over Monmouth (2/26/07).

Redshirt Year (2005-06)

Used his redshirt year to concentrate on academics.

Riverdale Baptist HS

Sweetney played for head coach Louis Wilson at Riverdale Baptist High School, where he helped lead his squad to two National Independent Christian School Championships - one during his senior year with a 33-1 record, and one during his junior year with a 23-6 record...averaged 22 ppg, 10 rpg, 5 apg, and 3 spg as a senior...was a McDonald’s All-America nominee senior season...was named the team’s most outstanding player...all-county as a junior...Top-20 at Eastern Invitational...MVP of the Holiday Basketball Tournament.
