Undergraduate Research in the Chemistry Department
Summer 2008 - 12 students are working in the department with 6 faculty members and 1 student is conducting research at West Virginia Univ (REU), while 5 other students are doing internships at various companies.
The goal of undergraduate research is to prepare students for the difficult challenges faced when working on a problem they have never faced. Research requires critical thinking and a multi-disciplinary approach, which allows students to use classroom knowledge and research skills to better understand the system under investigation. Undergraduate research helps students to develop skills in data analysis, reading the scientific literature, writing research articles, and writing proposals. The chemistry department at Saint Francis encourages our majors to get involved as freshman and continue their projects throughout their degree process. If you have questions about undergraduate research please contact any faculty member in the department, Dr. Rose Clark, Dr. Charles Dameron, Dr. Balaz Hargittai, Fr. Nathan Malavolti, Ph.D., Dr. Pedro Muino, or Dr. Edward Zovinka.
Students busy in the lab and having fun with their research projects.
