2007-2008

  • $125,000  Course, Curriculum, and Laboratory Improvement grant submitted by Dr. Rose Clark (PI), Dr. Balaz Hargittai, Fr. Nathan Malavolti, Ph.D. and Dr. Edward Zovinka has been recommended for funding by the National Science Foundation.
  • $7,500 toward Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids (ROCK) awarded from the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) (Ed Zovinka).
  • $510,000 Yr-4: Teaming Educators for Applied Math and Science Learning (TEAMS) a state grant (awarded to Saint Francis University and the Intermediate Unit 8) to improve science education in rural areas. (Clark, Dillon, Harris, and Zovinka)
  • Dr. Rose Clark, Dr. Charles Dameron, and Dr. Balazs Hargittai are part of a consortium of users on a LC/MS/MS instrument funded by the NSF Major Research Instumentation Program at Duquesne University ($574,500).  Duquesne will be purchasing a Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometer that Saint Francis Chemistry faculty/students will be able to use to analyze larger organic and biomolecules. 

2006-2007

  • $210,446  from the National Institute of Health for Dr. Hargittai and Dr. Muino’s Research Project
  • $93,000  from NSF for Dr. Zovinka’s Research Project.
  • $5,000 toward Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids (ROCK) awarded from the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) (Ed Zovinka).
  • $6,000 from the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh for the purchase of a Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (plus $6000 university match, PI’s Nathan Malavolti, Rose Clark)
  • $510,000 Yr-3: Teaming Educators for Applied Math and Science Learning (TEAMS) a state grant (awarded to Saint Francis University and the Intermediate Unit 8) to improve science education in rural areas. (Clark, Dillon, Harris, and Zovinka)

2005-2006

  • $9,000     from The Pittsburgh Conference Memorial Undergraduate Instrumentation Grant for the purchase of a atomic absorption instrument (plus $6000 university match)
  • $85,000   from NSF for the purchase of a Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry instrument. Grant title: Integration of Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry Problem-Based Laboratories into a Newly Revised Undergraduate Chemistry Curriculum. (PI-Rose Clark, Co-PIs, Balazs Hargittai, Pedro Muino, and Edward Zovinka). Grant numberDUE-0410147.
  • $500,000 from NSF over 5 years to help advance our efforts in using undergraduate research as recruitment and retention tool. Grant title: STEMing the Flow: Connecting Undergraduates with Applied Science. (PI-Edward Zovinka; Co-PIs, Rose Clark, Balazs Hargittai, Lane Loya, Sue Reimer; other faculty- Pedro Muino, Sue Morra, John Trimble). Grant numberDUE-0525440.
  • $4,500 toward Rural Outreach Chemistry for Kids (ROCK) awarded from the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP) (Ed Zovinka).
  • $510,000 Yr-2: Teaming Educators for Applied Math and Science Learning (TEAMS) a state grant (awarded to Saint Francis University and the Intermediate Unit 8) to improve science education in rural areas. (Clark, Dillon, Harris, and Zovinka)

  • $6,000 from SSP for the purchase of UV-Visible Spectrophotometer with fiber optic probe System (Ed Zovinka).
  • $510,000 Yr-1: Teaming Educators for Applied Math and Science Learning (TEAMS) a state grant (awarded to Saint Francis University and the Intermediate Unit 8) to improve science education in rural areas. (Clark, Dillon, Harris, and Zovinka)

  • $54,016 grant awarded by the NSF to Integrate GC/MS across our Newly Revised Chemistry Curriculum (Rose Clark, PI; Hargittai, Muiño, and Zovinka, co-PIs)
  • $200 for the Innovative Activies Grant awarded by the ACS (Chris Yeisley)
