Sports Medicine Personnel

The Saint Francis University sports medicine staff consists of our Team Physician, Dr. Kevin Messner, MD. He is affiliated with Miner’s Medical Center in Hastings.  Western Pennsylvania Orthopedics serves as our team orthopedic surgeons.  On campus staff consists of a Director of Sports Medicine//Head Athletic Trainer, three assistant athletic trainers, and approximately 12-15 student athletic trainers in a non-accredited sports medicine program. Other health care professionals we consider an integral part of our sports medicine team, though not financially or contractually bound to the University athletics department, include Saint Francis University Health Services Department (Director of Counseling, Physician, Physician Assistant, RN); Physical Therapists of the DiSepio Institute, Dr. Robert Maruca, DDS, Team Dentist; and Dr. Archibald Morris, Team Optometrist.

In January 2009, the sports medicine department became part of the DiSepio Institute of Health and Wellness. This union allows sports medicine to function under the school of health science and enables the sports medicine staff to utilize all of the modern therapeutic and rehabilitative equipment available at the DiSepio Health and Wellness Center.
