Red Flash’s Fisher Nominated for the Allstate/AFCA Good Works Team
LORETTO, Pa. (July 27, 2009) – Saint Francis senior Russel Fisher (Kailua, Hawaii/Mid Pac Institute), a member of the Red Flash football team, has been nominated for 2009 Allstate/AFCA Good Works Team, as announced by Allstate Insurance and the American Football Coaches Association.
Fisher is one of 106 players nominated for their outstanding contributions in the areas of volunteerism and civic involvement. The voting panel will select two 11-player teams, one comprised of players from Division I Football Subdivision Series, and one made up of players from Division I Football Championship Series, Divisions II and III and the NAIA. Judges include Allstate executives, members of the AFCA, former Good Works honorees and media members from ESPN and CBS Sports.
"Allstate and the AFCA have created a partnership of common interests and both organizations are proud to honor the off-the-field achievements of college football players and at all levels," said Guy Hill, vice president of sales and service for Allstate, on the PR News Wire web site. "Allstate shares a genuine commitment to the community with these 106 student-athletes, and we encourage them to continue their benevolent efforts."
The Hawaiian-born Fisher is known around the SFU campus for not only his skill on the field, but also his impact on the community. He has volunteered at Alicia Richardson Sports for Kids Day, Relay for Life and the Special Olympics. As a member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity, Fisher has also donated his time and efforts to the Adopt-A-Grandparent program and participates in fundraising efforts for the Children’s Miracle Network.
