Saint Francis’ Slingwine and Waligora Voted To All-Northeast Conference Softball Team

LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University seniors Kelly Slingwine (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine Richland) and Nicole Waligora (Johnstown, Pa. / Westmont Hilltop) have been named to the 2009 Northeast Conference Softball Second Team All-Conference squad, which was announced on Thursday night at the league’s annual banquet.

 

Slingwine picked up her first career honor as the second team shortstop, while Waligora was named the second team utility player. It was Waligora’s second career selection as she was named the first team utility player in 2008.

 

Slingwine led the 2009 Red Flash softball team in batting average (.346), at-bats (153), runs scored (38), hits (53), doubles (13), triples (2), home runs (10), RBI (43), walks (11) and stolen bases (18). She finished her career as the school’s all-time leader in hits (194), doubles (37), and stolen bases (53), and is second in runs scored (107), third in RBI (112), and fourth in home runs (22). Slingwine finished her career with a .315 batting average.

 

Waligora is an English/Communications major with a 3.58 GPA. She started 151 of 178 games during her career, and finished on several Top-10 lists at Saint Francis. A career .306 hitter, Waligora is seventh all-time at SFU with 28 doubles, and third with 51 walks. She hit over .300 in three of four seasons, and was an All-Northeast Conference First Team Utility Player in 2008, when she also was named to the Akadema/Northeast Conference All-Tournament Team. As a senior, Waligora hit .330 with two home runs, four doubles and 12 RBI.

 

The Red Flash have now had five players named to the All-Northeast Conference teams over the past two seasons.
