Saint Francis’ Varee Picks Up AVCA All-America Honors
LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis University junior Jordan Varee (Conneautville, Pa. / Conneaut Valley) recently added to his impressive resume by being named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American this week in Provo, Utah, becoming the second player in school history to receive the honor.
The third-year right-side hitter was named to the AVCA Division I-II Men’s Second Team All-America squad, joining former teammate Marc Honore as the only two players to be named All-Americans in Red Flash men’s volleyball history. Honore was named to the AVCA Division I-II Men’s First Team in 2007.
Varee, who was recently named an Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) First Team honoree, became the first underclassmen in program history to receive the AVCA honor.
A three-time EIVA All-East selection, Varee is the school’s all-time leader in kills (1,366), total attacks (2,828), and service aces (101). In 2009, he broke his own single-season school records with 597 kills and 1,166 attacks. He finished with 43 service aces, which is second for a single-season at SFU, and his 196 digs are third-most in program history. Additionally, Varee is fifth in program history with 461 digs, and is sixth with 213 blocks, and third with a .289 career hitting percentage.
Heading into this weekend’s NCAA men’s volleyball championship, Varee ranks fourth in the nation with 5.33 kills per game. He is also 12th in aces per game (0.38), 27th in hitting percentage (.326), and 51st in digs per game (1.76).
Varee helped lead the Red Flash to a 15-15 overall record this season, as well as a third place finish in the EIVA Tait Division. Saint Francis made its third appearance in the past four years in the EIVA semifinals.
