Red Flash Golfers in Third After Day One of NEC Championships

CHAMPIONS GATE, Fla. (May 1, 2009) Mike Magalski (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) shot 37-32-69 to lead the Saint Francis men’s golf team to a third place finish on the first day of competition at the Northeast Conference Championships in Champions Gate, Fla., on Friday.

Magalski, who has led the Red Flash all season, shot three under par and sits in a tie for third place. Long Island leads the competition with a score 292, while CCSU’s Erik Hawerchak and C.G. Mercatoris are tied for first with scores of 68. SFU combined for a score of 299.

Tyler Straub (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) is tied for 15th after shooting 39-36-75 and finishing the day three over par. Fellow freshman Vincent Adams (Broisbriand, Quebec/John Abbot College) is in 24th place, finishing 36-41-77.

Joey Amelia (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham-Kent Secondary) is on shot behind, shooting 39-39-78 to end day one in 28th place. Teammate Dylan Holwell (Calgary, Alberta/The Edge School for Athletes) went 42-42-84 and sits 47th.

SFU will continue with day two of action tomorrow in Florida.
