Davis, Behre Shine on Home Track at Red Flash Open
LORETTO, Pa. (April 25, 2009) – Jorden Davis (Mississauga, Ontario/Loyola Catholic) and Chris Behre (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) each claimed a victory on their home track as the Saint Francis outdoor track & field teams hosted the Third Annual Red Flash Open at the Father Bede Hines Track at DeGol Field in Loretto on Saturday.
Davis won the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.37 and earned second in the 200-meter event with a time of 21.87. Behre claimed the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:51.53.
"I was very pleased with the visiting teams and the performances of our own team today," said head coach Felix Moreno. "This meet was a great tuned-up as we get ready for conference. We got some impressive performances from Behre, Davis, and Lloyd Foster (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic). Kayla Kline (Ebensburg, Pa./Cambria Heights), Nikki Brownyard (Carlisle, Pa./Trintiy) and Christy Staily (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) also did a great job in the hurdles, as did Sarah Frydrych (Wilmington, Del./Saint Mark’s) in the 400. Ben Maderia (Summerhill, Pa./Forest Hills) and Karl DeWyngaert (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank) also had a great outing. As a team, I am very proud of them for the hard work and sacrifices they have made this season."
Sydney King (San Diego, Pa./Point Loma) and Julia Morey (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort) both grabbed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.82. Tony Armstead (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) picked up fifth in the men’s event, crossing the line in 11.16. Denis Eradiri (Sofia, Bulgaria/Vladislav Gramatik 73) finished 10th (11.29), while Will Velez (Staten Island, N.Y./Benedictine) placed 11th in 11.30.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Sarah Harmon (Quantico, Md./James M. Bennet) took sixth with a time of 15.51, with Staily right behind her in eight, finishing in 15.99. Morey and Brownyard earned 11th and 15th, respectively.
For the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Ben Peacock (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) placed 11th in a time of 16:20.
King took 14th in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 26.93. Danielle Burton (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) claimed 25th, with Brittany Busse (North Olmstead, Ohio/North Olmstead) in 28th. Armstead ran the event in 22.27, picking up fourth for the men.
Kline ran the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.31, earning sixth place. Browynard (1:08.39) and Staily (1:08.75) claimed 10th and 11th, while Morey again did well by grabbing 15th place. Peacock, the lone SFU participant for the men, also placed 15th in a time of 1:00.98
In the 400-meter dash, Frydrych ran a 1:02.55 to finish 11th, with Danielle Williams (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) placing 13th and Busse earning 17th. With Davis winning the men’s side, Anthony Rusonis (York, Pa./West York Area) took 13th in a time of 51.92.
Kathleen Cianci (Greenville, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) finished the 800-meter run in 21st place with a time of 2:36.25, followed by Chloe Pierre (Valencia, Pa./Mars) in 23rd and Lauren Krug (Asheville, Pa./Penn Cambria) in 24th. The men fared well in the event, as Behre won and Brian Kealey (Southhampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) grabbed fourth with a 1:56.98. Foster took seventh in 1:57.11 and Ryan DuBois (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) claimed 12th in 2:00.18.
Anna Hoffman (Enon Valley, Pa./Mohawk) finished the 1500-meter event in 4:42.29 to claim second place. Allyson Sheehan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) placed 15th in 5:05.86, and Hannah Reist finished 18th. The men had five finish in the top ten, as Christopher Mills (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) took second (3:58.39), Jeremy Tice (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) grabbed fourth (4:00.19), Timothy Wertner (Chambersburg, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) earned seventh (4:06.50), Andrew McKee (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) picked up eighth (4:07.73) and Brent DiGiorgio (Armagh, Pa./United) placed 10th in 4:09.61. Adam Mengel (Monaca, Pa./Center) finished right outside the top ten, picking up 11th in a time of 4:09.99.
The men’s 4 x 100-meter relay picked up the win, as Armstead, Davis, Eradiri and Everette Farmer (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) combined for a time of 41.78. The women also did well, as Brownyard, Kline, Staily and Frydrych grabbed fifth in the 4 x 400-meter relay in a time of 4:12.53. SFU won the men’s event, as Behre, Tice, Davis and Anthony Rusonis (York, Pa./West York Area) finished in 3:19.05.
In the field events, Liz DeMedal (New Wilmington, Pa./New Wilmington Area) earned fourth in the pole vault with a height of 3.35 meters. Jill Albee (Ashley, Pa./Hanover) also did well in the long jump, grabbing third with a distance of 5.22 meters. Albee went in to finish second in the triple jump with a final of 11.65 meters. Christin Bridge (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) had a throw of 44.21 in the hammer throw, grabbing fifth. She later took second in the shot put with a throw of 13.90 meters.
Eradiri won the men’s long jump, setting a new school record with a jump of 24-09.00. Velez grabbed fifth in the event. Maderia placed second in the discus, with a throw of 47.28 meters. He also grabbed second in the hammer throw with a throw of 55.15 meters. DeWyngaert earned fourth in the event with a finish of 48.81 meters.
Josh Hazen (Vernon, N.J./Vernon) threw for third in the shot put, with a distance of 16.19 meters. DeWyngaert placed 10th in the event.
Next up for the Red Flash is a trip to West Long Branch, N.J. to compete in the Northeast Conference Championships. The event will be held at Monmouth University May 2-3.
