Red Flash Improve by 29 Strokes To Vault Into Fourth Place at NEC Championship
HERSHEY, Pa. – The Saint Francis women’s golf team bounced back from a tough first day to record a second-round 309 and jump two spots from sixth place to fourth heading into the final day at the Northeast Conference championship.
The Red Flash had all four point-scoring players record rounds in the 70s on the second day. Three players tallied a second-round 77.
As a team, SFU enjoyed a 29-stroke improvement to vault into fourth-place with a two-round total of 338-309-647. Fairleigh Dickinson leads the event with a 311-299-610. The Knight’s second-round 299 is a new tournament record, as is their two-round total of 610. Sacred Heart (319-313-632) is in second, Long Island (321-316-637) is in third, and Mount St. Mary’s (335-317-652) sits in fifth.
The third and final day of the event will be held on Sunday, in Hershey.
Sophomore Caryn Doege (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) and junior Lisa Kocin (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) lead the way for the Red Flash after two rounds. Doege has a two-round 82-77-159 and Kocin has a 81-78-159 in sitting in a tie for 11th place. Freshman Skylar Hay (Easton, Pa. / Freedom) is in a tie for 13th with a 83-77-160 and sophomore Kaitlin Hensal (Seville, Ohio / Wadsworth) improved by 15 strokes from the first-round and is in a tie for 28th with a 92-77-169. Sophomore Laura Smith (State Line, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) is in 42nd with a 94-98-192.
