Red Flash Men Second, Women Sixth at Bucknell Team Challenge
LEWISBURG, Pa. (April 18, 2009) – Led by Jorden Davis (Mississauga, Ontario/Loyola Catholic), Ben Maderia (Summerhill, Pa./Forest Hills) and Christin Bridge (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) the Saint Francis men’s track & field team took second and the women’s team claimed sixth place at the Bucknell Team Challenge in Lewisburg on Saturday.
Davis placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.88, while Maderia earned two victories in the field events. Bridge also grabbed a win and a third place finish in the field events.
Tony Armstead (Harrisburg, Pa./Harrisburg) finished sixth and Denis Eradiri (Sofia, Bulgaria/Vladislav Gramatik 73) grabbed seventh in the 100-meter dash. Armstead crossed the line in 11.04, while Eradiri finished in 11.06. In the women’s event, Sydney King (San Diefo, Calif./Point Loma) claimed sixth in 12.83, while Julia Morey (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort) took eighth (13.05) and Kayla Kline (Ebensburg, Pa./Cambria Heights) finished 12th in 13.70.
In the 200-meter, Armstead crossed the line in 22.53, picking up seventh place. Everette Farmer (Baltimore, Md./Loyola Blakefield) placed 13th in the event. On the women’s side, King again found success by running the event in a time of 26.69 and taking tenth place.
Kline took eleventh in the 400-meter hurdles 1:07.65, with Nicole Brownyard (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity) right behind her in 13th with a time of 1:08.48.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Jonathan Gibson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) claimed seventh with a time of 10:26.8. His female counterpart, Hannah Reist (Cleona, Pa./Cleona), finished sixth in the event in 12:14.6.
Chris Behre earned second in the 1500-meter run, finishing in 3:57.92. Adam Mengel (Monaca, Pa./Center) and Brent DiGiorgio (Armagh, Pa./United) took eighth and ninth, respectively. Anna Hoffman (Enon Valley, Pa./Mohawk) placed fifth in the women’s event, crossing the line in 4:44.62.
In the 8000-meter run, Jeremy Tice (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) grabbed third in a time of 1:54.73. Danielle Williams earned eight in the women’s event (2:23.71), with Hoffman taking her 11th.
Eradiri won the long jump with a distance of 7.74 meters and took second in the triple jump with a jump of 14.90 meters. Maderia also earned a win for the Red Flash, putting on the top performance in the discus throw with a throw of 47.24 meters. Terry Bookhamer (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) took 11th in the event. Elizabeth DeMedal (New Wilminton, Pa./Wilmington Area) claimed third in the women’s pole vault with a height of 10-11.75.
Bridge placed third in the women’s discus (39.12 meters), with Kathryne Kendrick right behind her in seventh (37.05 meters).
Maderia earned second in the hammer throw with a throw of 54.17. Karl DeWyngaert (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank) placed fourth in the event, while Bridge and Kendrick took 11th and 12th for the women.
Maderia then earned his second win of the day with a throw of 15.05 meters in the shot put. Peterson grabbed eleventh in the event. Bridge won the shot put for the women, with a toss of 13.63. Kendrick placed ninth in the event.
The men’s 4 x 800 meter relay team of Gibson, Tice, Behre and Ryan DuBois (Wayne, N.J./DePaul Catholic) grabbed second with a time of 7:57.69. The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Armstead, Davis, Farmer and Eradiri placed third, crossing the line in 42.41.
Morey placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.24, with Christy Staily (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) taking 10th and Brownyard grabbing 12th.
The Red Flash will return to Loretto to host the Third Annual Red Flash Open at DeGol Field in April 25th.
