Davis, Hoffman Named NEC Scholar-Athletes

LORETTO, Pa. (April 15, 2009) – Saint Francis track & field student-athletes Anna Hoffman (Enon Valley, Pa./Mohawk) and Jorden Davis (Mississauga, Ontario/Loyola Catholic) have been named 2008-2009 Northeast Conference Winter Scholar-Athlete Award Winners, as announced by the league on Wednesday.  SFU is the only school to have two honorees this semester.

Saint Francis also had 14 athletes named to the NEC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, including five swimmers and six members of the women’s indoor track & field team. 

Fifty Red Flash athletes were also named to the Academic Honor Roll.  Women’s track & field again led the way with 17 honorees, followed by swimming with 15 representatives.  

Hoffman, a junior distance runner, claim’s the women’s indoor track & field award.    She took home her fourth and fifth individual titles at the NEC Championships in February.  Hoffman claimed victory in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:07.06 and in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:54.05.   Last season, Hoffman set the meet record in the 5,000, winning the event in a time of 17:23.11.  She has also taken top honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the outdoor 5,000-meter run.  Hoffman has accrued three top-ten finishes at the NEC Cross Country Championships.  An Elementary Education/Special Education Major, she maintains a 3.84 grade point average. 

Senior sprinter Davis takes the award for men’s track & field after guiding the Red Flash to the NEC Championship, defeating Monmouth by five points for the title.  Davis posted a convincing victory in the 400-meter run, crossing the line in a time of 48.58.  He also took second in the 200-meter event with a time of 22.20.  Both marks qualified him for the IC4A Championships, where he placed 14th in the 400-meter run and 19th in the 200-meter event.  He also struck gold at the NEC meet as a part of the distance medley relay, running the second leg for the Red Flash, who won the event in 10:32.90.  Davis closed out his career as a two-time NEC individual champion, also having captured the 400-meter run at the 2007 outdoor championship meet.  A marketing major, Davis carries a 3.34 grade point average.
