Red Flash Men 11th, Women 23rd at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Pa. (April 3, 2009) – The Saint Francis men’s track & field team ran to an 11th place finish while the women took 23rd at the 44th Annual Colonial Relays at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., on Saturday.

Day two started off well for the Red Flash, with Kathryne Kendrick, Christin Bridge (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine Richland) and Catya Gilbert (Loysburg, Pa./Northern Bedford) all placing in the top 20 of the women’s hammer throw. Kendrick took 15th with a throw of 38.06 meters, while Bridge placed 16th and Gilbert 19th. Bridge and Kendrick also fared well in the discus, as Bridge grabbed 11th place with a throw of 35.67 and Kendrick took 13th with a throw of 35.43. Bridge later went on to place seventh in the women’s shot put with a throw of 13.20 meters.

On the men’s side, the quartet of Lloyd Foster (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic), Jeremy Tice (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield), Brian Kealey (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Chris Behre (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) took ninth in the 4 x 800 meter relay with a combined time of 7:50.11. The women’s team of Kathleen Cianci (Greenville, Pa./Kennedy Catholic), Sarah Grossi (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan), Hannah Reist (Cleona, Pa./Cleona) and Allyson Sheehan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) finished 13th in the same event with a time of 10:09.29.

Denis Eradiri (Sofia, Bulgaria/Vladislav Gramatik 73) won the men’s triple jump with a jump of 14.91 meters, qualifying for the IC4A meet. Jill Albee (Ashley, Pa./Hanover) took 20th in the women’s event.

The Red Flash got another win in the men’s discus throw, as Ben Maderia (Summerhill, Pa./Forest Hills) placed first with a throw of 47.60 meters, also qualifying for the IC4A meet.

The men’s 4 x 1500 meter relay team of Kyle Gibson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan), Chris Mills (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech), Brent DiGiorgio (Armagh, Pa./United) and Andrew Brown (Ebensburg, Pa./Northern Cambria) crossed the line 11th with a time of 17:06.62.

The teams will return to action next weekend when they travel to Lewisburg for the Bucknell Open on Friday and Saturday.
