Red Flash Field Hockey Announces Team Captains for 2009-10 Season
LORETTO, Pa. (March 20, 2009) – Julia Baczeski (Southbury, Conn./Pomperaug), Caitlin Brown (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) and Allison Severage (Garwood, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) have been named captains of the Saint Francis Field Hockey team for the 2009-10 season, as announced by head coach Stacey Bean on Friday.
“Each of these student-athletes goes out of their way to represent our program well,” said Bean, who will be in her second season with the Red Flash in 2009. “ The example that they set for their teammates both on and off the field is one of the primary reasons they were chosen to guide the team next season. Julia, Caitlin, and Allison bring a unique set of leadership qualities to the team. Collectively, these three young women form a strong, positive presence as captains that will help lead this team in achieving our goals next season.”
Baczeski, a sophomore forward/midfielder, appeared in 14 games for the Red Flash in 2008 with five starts. She had a goal and five shots, including four on goal. Baczeski is a Physician’s Assistant major who was named to the Saint Francis Athletic Department Honor Roll in the fall of 2008. She is also a representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Brown is a sophomore back who ranked third on the team in minutes with 1,234 in 2008 for the Red Flash. She started 18 games and chipped in with an assist and three shots. Brown, who also serves on SFU’s Leadership Council, is a Biology major who was been named to both the Saint Francis and SFU Athletic Department Honor Rolls numerous times.
Severage will return for her second season as a captain after providing leadership to the Red Flash as a junior in 2008. The midfielder was an offensive threat for Saint Francis, and her lone goal of the season was a crucial game-winner that gave the Red Flash an overtime win against in-state rival Robert Morris on October 31. Named to the Dean’s List and the SFU and Athletic Department Honor Rolls numerous times, Severage is an Elementary Education/Special Education major. She was also recently named to the 2008 Division I Field Hockey National Academic Squad.
