I. What song or songs gets your team motivated for competition or to train? Please provide the title and artist for each.
-“Disturbia” by Rihanna, “When I Grow Up” by The Pussycat Dolls, “Enter Sandman” by Metallica
II. What is your team’s most memorable experience from your last or current season of competition?
-The most memorable experience from our last season was when we beat Colgate. It was a very intense game and we all pulled together and played with a tremendous amount of heart.
III. Does your team have a funny moment or story? If so, what happened?
-One time our goalie brought two left cleats to one of our games. She has pretty large feet, so she had to borrow someone else’s spare cleats that were 2 sizes too small for her.
IV. What are the game day rituals for your team?
-After everyone has had treatment and is dressed, we go to the Champions Room to discuss our game plan with our coaches. After, we return to the locker room and the team does some type of dance to a song (for example, last year we did the soldier boy dance).
V. What community service is your team involved with?
-Every year the soccer team does Relay For Life. We split our team into two separate teams and we fundraise, walk together, and spend a whole night camped out on at the relay for a great cause. It’s a great experience. We also talk to neighboring schools about playing sports in college and how it builds character. We also helped to plant trees along the main roads of Loretto last year.
VI. What advice does your team have to offer to young students involved with your sport?
-One thing to always remember is to never give up. No matter what a coach, parent, or anyone else tells you, you can always work harder and become a better player. Everyone makes mistakes and has difficult patches, it’s how you persevere through these tough obstacles and learn from them that make a great player.
VII. Does your team have any role models in your sport or in athletics in general?
-I think the entire Women’s National Soccer team has been a great set of role models for all of us and they have played a crucial role in encouraging us to continue playing and to be the best player we can be. A few specific players are Abby Wombach, Kristine Lilly, Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain…
VIII. Please provide 5 fun facts about your team.
1. The majority of our team is blonde
2. We have a girl from California
3. Our coaches are both foreign. One from Holland and one from Brazil
4. We are sometimes mistaken for the cross country team
5. We spend more in the training room than any other team (including football)
