Red Flash Headed to NEC Tournament for First Time Since 2005
LORETTO, Pa. (Feb. 16, 2009) - With Monday’s 70-59 victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats, the Saint Francis women’s basketball team earned a spot in the 2009 Northeast Conference Tournament. The last time the Red Flash made the post season was during the 2004-05 season, when they came away with the tournament title.
"I thought this was a great win for our program, clinching a tournament berth," said head coach Susan Robinson Fruchtl, who will head to the postseason for the first time in her career. "We’re not happy with just a berth, but it’s a huge step for this program"
The Flash improved to 10-15 overall and are 8-6 in the NEC. They are currently tied with Robert Morris and Monmouth for third place.
The quarterfinals will be held at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn., on March 7. The winners will remain in Connecticut for the semifinals on March 8. The Championship will be held at the home arena of the highest remaining seed on March 15.
