Red Flash Swimmers Still Sit in Third After Day Two of NECs
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Feb. 13, 2008) – The Saint Francis swim team remains in third place after day two of the Northeast Conference Championships at Yale University in New Haven, Conn.
The quartet of Elise Merrill (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring), Elyse Peterman (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain), Elyse Dobrick (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) and Angela Marino (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) picked up 24 points with a third place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team touched the wall in a time of 1:49.28.
Kristen Low (Mississauga, Ontario/Sinclair Secondary) also grabbed a third place finish for the Red Flash, finishing the 400-yard individual medley in 4:40.04. Teammate Jessica Dunn (Bristow, Va./Seton School) was right behind her, taking fourth place. Kaitlin MacDonald (Olney, Md./Holy Cross) rounded out the scoring for the Flash, finishing sixth in the event.
In her first individual event of the day, Peterman took fifth place in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:10.20. Katie Snyder (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) was close behind, finishing in 1:10.61 to taking sixth place.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Merrill touched the wall in 58.66 for a third place finish. Marino also picked up points for the Flash, grabbing sixth place in the event.
In the final event of the day, the Red Flash 800-yard freestyle relay team touched the wall in 7:59.52, good enough for a third place finish. The team of Melissa Heintz (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley), McKenzie Madore (State College, Pa./State College), Dunn and MacDonald picked up 24 points for the team.
The Flash will continue with day three of the meet on Saturday.
