Red Flash Women Take Fourth, Men’ Finish Sixth at NEC Championships
HOLMDEL, N.J. (Nov. 1, 2008) – Junior Anna Hoffman (Enon Valley, Pa. / Mohawk) crossed the line in 19:13.6 to finish eighth and lead the Saint Francis women’s cross country team to a fourth-place finish with 113 points on Saturday at the Northeast Conference Championships.
Sophomore Timothy Wertner (Chambersburg, Pa. / Greencastle-Antrim) paced the Red Flash men with a seventh-place showing by finishing in 27:08.9. The Saint Francis men took sixth with 138 points.
Quinnipiac won the Northeast Conference championship on both the men’s and women’s sides.
Being one of the top-14 finishers, Hoffman and Wertner receive all-Northeast Conference honors. Senior Shannon Kovack (Connellsville, Pa. / Connellsville) was also named to the team with her 13th-place finish in 19:30.3.
Junior Allyson Sheehan (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Baldwin) finished 20th in 20:04, sophomore Sarah Grossi (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canon McMillan) placed 31st in 20:31, and sophomore Danielle Williams (Altoona, Pa. / Bishop Guilfoyle) took 41st in 21:06.
Senior Ryan Bair (Leola, Pa. / Conestoga Valley) followed Wertner with a 23rd-place finish in 27:50.0, freshman Christopher Mills (Pikesville, Md. / Western Tech) finished 26th in 27:57.7, senior Jeremy Tice (Littleton, Colo. / Chatfield) was 33rd in 28:07.3, and freshman Adam Mengel (Monaca, Pa. / Center) took 51st in 28:40.9.
