Red Flash Swimming Falls to Bucknell and Duquesne

LEWISBURG, Pa. (Nov. 1, 2008) - The Saint Francis swim team suffered its first losses of the season, falling to Bucknell by a score of 231-63 and being topped by Duquesne 188-74 on Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium at Bucknell University in Lewisburg.

The Flash, who are now 1-2 on the season, will travel to Loyola University for a meet with Johns Hopkins and Fairfield on November 7 and 8.

The foursome of Elise Merrill (Carlisle, Pa./Big Spring), Elyse Peterman (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain), Elyse Dobrick (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley)and Blair Kosela (Crescent, Pa./Moon Area) took fourth in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.31. They were closely followed by teammates Jessica Dunn (Bristow, Va./Seton School), Chloe Pierre (Valencia, Pa./Mars), Abi May (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler Area) and Angela Marino (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) who touched the wall in 1:52.88 for a fifth place finish.

Cara Morgan (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) finished the first individual event of the day, the 1000-yard freestyle, in a time of 10:56.64 to pick up sixth place finish for the Red Flash. Freshman Bethany Lanzendoen (River Edge, N.J./River Dell) finished seventh with a time of 11:04:54.

Dunn, who was named the NEC Swimmer-of-the-Week last week, had the best individual finishes for the Red Flash. She took fourth place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.79 and later finished second in the 200 backstroke, touching the wall in 2:08.43. Dunn also took third in the 200-yard individual medley, touching in 2:12.99.

The duo of Peterman and Katie Snyder (Dayton, Ohio/Butler) took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 100 yard breaststroke. Peterman finished the event in a time of 1:09.62, while Snyder touched the wall right behind her at 1:10.48.

Melissa Heintz (Boyertown, Pa./Oley Valley) finished the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:18.77, taking fifth place. In the next event, the 100-yard butterfly, May and Dobrick finished fifth and sixth respectively. May touched in 1:00.98 and Dobrick finished the event in 1:01.56.

Merrill finished the 50-yard freestyle in 25.20, taking fifth place, before leading off the 200-yard freestyle relay. Merrill and teammates Kosela, Marino and Heintz picked up a second place finish in the event with a time of 1:40.61.
