Severage’s Overtime Goal Leads Red Flash Past Colonials in Season Finale

LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 31, 2008) –Only 3:34 minutes into overtime, junior forward Allison Severage (Garwood, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) found the back of the net to secure a 2-1 win for the Saint Francis field hockey team over Northeast Conference foe Robert Morris in the team’s final game of the season on Friday afternoon at DeGol Field in Loretto

The Flash end the season with a record 3-15 overall and 2-5 in the NEC.

Senior forward Belen Albanes (Atlanta, Ga./Dunwoody), playing in her final game for the Red Flash, netted a goal 6:41 into the first half.  Shortly after taking a corner, Albanes took a pass from sophomore back Caitlin Brown (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) and knocked the ball past Colonials goalkeeper Stephanie Seeley from five yards out to put the Red Flash up 1-0.

The Colonials struck back less than 10 minutes later on a goal by senior forward Samantha Lawless.  Defender Jessica Charles sent a pass over to Lawless, who shot the ball in from seven yards out to tie the game at 1-1.

Neither team would score in the second half, keeping the score at 1-1.  Lawless would get another opportunity with 11 minutes remaining in the second half, but a sprawling save by Red Flash goalkeeper Erin Reifsteck (Battle Creek, Mich./Saint Phillip) kept the score tied at 1.

With 11:26 left to play in overtime, Albanes had the ball in front of the net when Seeley came out to play it.  Albanes quickly sent it over to Severage, who shot it into the middle of the net for her first tally of the season, ending overtime with a score of 2-1 in favor of the Red Flash.

Albanes ends her career at Saint Francis as the program’s all-time leader in points with 49 and goals with 22.  Reifsteck, also playing in the final game of her career, made 6 stops to give her 515 career saves.  She started this season as the career leader in saves for the Red Flash.

The Colonials had 10 shots, with 7 coming on goal.  Lawless and midfielder Laura White led the way for RMU, with two shots on goal apiece.  The Red Flash tallied 3 shots on goal, with Severage, Albanes and senior midfielder Jesse Ehrhardt (Hackettstown, N.J./Mount Olive) making those attempts.  Seeley made one stop for the Colonials.
