Red Flash Tennis Falls to Monmouth 6-1
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (Sept. 29, 2008) – The Saint Francis women’s tennis team fell to the Monmouth 6-1 at the North Fork Golf & Tennis Center in Johnstown yesterday in their second match of the season.
The No. 1 doubles team of Abigail Ball (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) and Stephanie Rivera (El Paso, Texas, America’s High School) beat the Hawks duo of Sarah Ragan and Kaitlin Gallagher by a score of 9-8. Hawks No. 2 doubles Jessica Slinger and Diane Washer defeated Ashley Zalewski (Vandergift, Pa./Kiski Area) and Maya Ranchod (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln), while Juliana Gustafson (Keyser, W. Va./Keyser) and Devynn Sarver (Mt. Clemens, Mich,/Fraser) fell to Katie Tierney and Kelly Friedrich.
Rivera also beat Gallagher in the No. 2 singles match with set scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Ranchod defeated Diane Washer 7-6, and Julie Meier (St. Mary’s, Pa./Elk Country Catholic) beat Megan Rice 6-1. Ragan defeated Ball in the No. 1 singles match 7-6, 3-6 and 6-3. Zalewski fell to Tierney with set scores of 6-4 and 6-1, and Sarver was defeated by Slinger. Friedrich took Gustafson by scores of 7-6 and 6-3, and Britney Dupuis defeated the Red Flash’s Brianna Mapes (Somerset, Pa./Shanksville)
The team returns to action on Saturday, October 4, when the host Wagner.
