Red Flash Drop First Match of Season at Youngstown State
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (Sept. 21, 2008) – Freshman Nathaniel Fleming (Gas City, Ind. / Mississinewa) and senior Kyle Primeau (Windsor, Ontario, Canada / Riverside) were both victorious in singles, but the Saint Francis men’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision on Sunday afternoon at Youngstown State.
The Red Flash dropped to 1-1 on the young season, but will be back in action on Saturday at Mount St. Mary’s.
Fleming won his second straight match to begin his collegiate career, a 1-6, 7-5, 11-9 win over Steven D’Angelo at No. 4 singles. Primeau saw his first action in a dual match this season, and came away with a 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), 10-7 win over Brian Carey at No. 6 singles.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Stephen Kowalski (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River) dropped a 7-5, 6-1 match against Patrick Hamning. Senior Andrei Sandu (Windsor, Ontario, Canada / Kennedy Collegiate) lost a 6-3, 6-4 contest against Michael Kathary at No. 1 singles. At No. 3, junior Jordan Kowalski (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River) dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision against Robert Emig. Senior Jeffrey Seevers (Clear Lake, Texas / Clear Lake) lost 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 5 singles against Chris Leson.
In doubles, the Red Flash lost all three matches contested. Stephen Kowalski and Seevers fell, 8-5, against Leson and Emig, Sandu and Fleming also dropped an 8-5 contest against Kathary and D’Angelo, and senior David Kirby (New Germany, Pa. / Forest Hills) and freshman Steven Child (Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster County Day) dropped an 8-2 decision against Hamning and Carey.
