SFU Men’s Golf Sits In Tie for Sixth After First Day at Navy
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (Sept. 12, 2008) – Freshmen Tyler Straub and Joey Amelia (Chatham, Ontario, Canada / Chatham-Kent Secondary) each fired a first-round two-over par 73 to help lead the Saint Francis men’s golf team to a first-day sixth-place tie at the Navy Fall Golf Classic.
Straub carded a 34-39-73, while Amelia shot a 35-38-73 to put themselves in a tie for 17th place. The Red Flash shot a first-round 297.
George Washington leads the event after shooting a 282 on Friday night. Siena (291) is second, North Dakota State and St. Joseph’s (294) are tied for third, and Navy White (295) rounds out the Top-5.
The event will conclude on Saturday with teams teeing off between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.
Freshman Vincent Adams (Boisbriand, Ontario, Canada / John Abbott College) is in 27th with a 37-37-74, freshman Van Simpson (London, Ontario, Canada / Oakridge Secondary School) carded a 39-38-77 for 50th place, and senior Kyle DeYulis (Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria) carded a 41-39-80 for 69th place.
