Red Flash Men Third, Women Fifth at Cal Cross Country Invite
CALIFORNIA, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2008) – The Saint Francis men’s and women’s cross country teams finished third and fifth respectively at the California University of Pennsylvania Invitational on Saturday in California, Pa. The men’s team accumulated only 75 points, while the women earned 135. Twelve teams competed in the event.
Both teams will return to Loretto to host the Second Annual Father Bedes Hines Invitational at 10 a.m. on September 13.
Freshman Kyle Gibson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) was the first Red Flash runner to cross the line. Gibson ran the course in a time of 26:37 and finished in fourth place. Chris Mills (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) finished 14th in a time of 27:46. John Bair (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) finished two spots behind him while Pat Regan of Slippery Rock finished first overall in a time of 25:05.
Jeremy Tice (Littleton, Colo./Chatfield) and Adam Mengel (Monaca, Pa./Shaler) also finished in the top 25 overall.
For the women, freshman Hannah Reist (Cleona, Pa./Cedar Crest) finished first for the Red Flash, placing 19th overall. Reist crossed the line in a time of 20:35.
Kathleen Cianci (Greenville, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) finished 24th in a time of 21:04. Danielle Williams (Altoona Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle), Allyson Sheehan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), and Sara Grossi (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) also placed in the top 35 in the event. Kristen Carter of Grove City College won the event in a time of 18:22.
