Red Flash Cross Country Finishes Fourth at Bison Open
LEWISBURG, Pa. (Aug. 29, 2008) – The Saint Francis University men’s and women’s cross country teams placed fourth at the Bison Open on Friday at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.
The Red Flash will travel to California University to participate in the 37th Annual Cal. U. Invitational at 10 am on Sept. 6.
Sophomore Timothy Wertner (Chambersburg, Pa./Greencastle-Atrium) was the top male finisher for the Red Flash, crossing the line tenth and finishing the four-mile course in 20:25.75. Because two competitors who finished before him were part of an unofficial Bucknell alumni team, Wertner was given eight place points.
Freshmen Kyle Gibson (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) and Christopher Mills (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) finished 15th and 16th, respectively. Bucknell’s Andrew Huebert finished first in the event.
For the women, freshman Hannah Reist (Cleona, Pa./Cedar Crest) was the first Red Flash to cross the finish line, coming in 32nd place. Her time for the three-mile course was 19:32.12. Sarah Grossi (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan) finished a few spots behind Reist at 34th, and Allison Sheehan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) finished in 39th place. Angela Borealo of Bloom crossed the finish line first in the event.
