Saint Francis’ Lewis Named to NEC Preseason All-Conference Football Team
LORETTO, Pa. (Aug. 12, 2008) – The Northeast Conference selected linebacker Scott Lewis (South Fork, Pa./Bishop McCort) for its’ annual 2008 Preseason All-Northeast Conference Football Team today. The team was announced during the NEC media teleconference, along with the preseason polls.
Lewis, who earned the NEC Defensive Rookie-of-the-Year award last season, will look to build upon a stellar freshman campaign in which he finished fourth amongst all Division I FCS tacklers. He was also named ECAC Rookie-of-the-Year. Lewis ranked 18th in the nation at the conclusion of last season, with a total of 55 solo tackles for the Red Flash. His 126 tackles are a Saint Francis freshman record, and are fifth-most for a single-season in program history.
The student-athletes were voted to the team by the leagues eight head coaches. Of the 25 chosen, 19 earned NEC postseason honors the previous season. Albany and Monmouth lead the conference, each with six players chosen.
