HERSHEY, Pa. (May 3, 2008) – The Saint Francis University men’s golf team fired a collective 307 in the second round of the Northeast Conference Championship at the Hershey Links Golf Club.  Two-thirds of the way through the event, the Red Flash have shot a combined 607, while falling to eighth place out of the 11-team field.

Senior Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas) once again set the pace for the Flash, blasting a par 144 (72-72) through Saturday’s round.  Gowdy’s effort ties him for sixth place individually, just four strokes behind tournament co-leaders Adam Petrasovic and Rocky Co of Sacred Heart and LIU, respectively.

Freshman phenom Joey Amelia (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham-Kent Secondary) carried forth the momentum of his strongest collegiate round to date by crushing a 77 in the second round.  In addition to his 74 in round one, Amelia finds himself all knotted up in 22nd place with a 151 (+7) overall headed into the final day of the chase for the coveted NEC crown.

The Red Flash entry was rounded out by senior Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec/Academie Les Estacades) (77-77-154) who enters round three in a tie for 28th place, sophomore Mike Magalski (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) (77-81-158) who is in a two-way stalemate at the 38th spot, and in 46th place, sophomore Aaron Osysko (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) (83-82-165) will look to finish strong on Sunday.

The final round is slated for Sunday, May 4 beginning at 7:45 am.
