Flash Take 10th at the Navy Spring Invitiational

Annapolis, Md. – The Saint Francis men’s golf team followed up their first day total of 301 with a five-man grouping of 311, combining for a 44-over par, 10th place effort at the Navy Spring Invitational. SFU headed into day two tied with Millersville University at 9th place, falling back 10 strokes from their first 18.
The Navy Golf squadron alongside Iona College each claimed the top billing with two day, five-man totals of 589. Navy clipped three strokes off of their day one aggregate of 296 to help them claim half of their own title.
Senior Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas) wrangled up the Red Flash’s best 36-hole total of 148 (71-77) for a +6 finish at T-17th. Sophomore Mike Magalski (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove) polished off a 76 on Sunday, combining his previous score of 75 for a T-27th listing of 151. Fourth year veteran Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec/Academie Les Estacades) trimmed six strokes from his original 80 in the later part of competition by firing a 74. Foisy’s 154 placed him in a tie for 39th. Freshman Joey Amelia (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham-Kent Secondary) looped the Naval Academy’s Golf Course on Sunday for an 84, pairing that round up with his first score of 75 for a T-66th combination of 159. Junior Kyle DeYulis (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) consistently carded a two-day total of 169 (84-85), grabbing a tie in 88th place.
The Flash have one more tournament remaining before the Northeast Conference Championships from May 2-4 at the Hershey Links Golf Club in Hershey, Pa. Saint Francis will take part in the First Energy Invitational, hosted at the Windmill Lake Golf Club. The Windmill Lake GC is located in Ravenna, Ohio.
