Flash Hold Their Own in First Round of the Lafayette Invitational; Currently T-4th
ROUND ONE RESULTS
Easton, Pa. – The Saint Francis men’s golf team did not allow a meager fog delay hinder their performance at the Lafayette Invitational hosted on the grounds of Center Valley Country Club Saturday morning. The Red Flash loopers discovered themselves in a four-way tie in fourth place thanks to a fantastic card of an even-par 72 (34-38) turned in by sophomore Mike Magalski (Spring Grove, Pa. / Spring Grove). Magalski’s round drew even for the third lowest on the day and is presently tied in seventh, individually.
Saint Francis put together a cumulative five-man score of 302, locking them in a four-way monopoly with Siena College, Hofstra University and NEC contigent Fairleigh Dickinson.
Drexel University sits atop the throne of Callways, Titleists, Taylor Mades and King Cobras with an aggregate of 289. Sean Sementz and Myles Vlachos each fired a 71 while Trevor Sahn ripped off the same score as Magalski.
Duquesne’s Brendan Madden shot a two-under par 70 for the top spot after round one.
Senior Matt Gowdy (London, Ontario / A.B. Lucas) held his own at Center Valley’s 18-hole test with a 74 (34-40), listing him in a stronghold at 18th while his counterpart, senior Steve Foisy (Repentigny, Quebec/Academie Les Estacades), trailed one stroke behind by carding a 75 (35-50). The NEC prodigy is tied for 22nd. Newcomer Joey Amelia (Chatham, Ontario/Chatham-Kent Secondary) stood strong with an 81 (39-42) for T-78th while sophomore Aaron Osysko (Parma, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) finished with an even 90 (45-45). Osysko is tied in 120th.
The Red Flash will hope to make a Tiger-like move in the rankings amidst the spirit of the Master’s Tournament this weekend when they get off to an early 8:00am shotgun round on Sunday, April 13th.
