Quinnipiac Quiets Red Flash, 19-3

Hamden, Conn. – The Saint Francis women’s lacrosse team bereaved their fifth conference loss in a row, 11th overall, after a 19-3 gut punch from the Quinnipiac Bobcats at Quinnipiac Lacrosse Field Sunday afternoon.

Junior bully Meghan Crosby (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) tallied two free-position goals to remain as the team’s leading scorer with 12 overall while the undaunted freshman, Meg Lamarche (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), potted SFU’s other counterattack.  Lamarche’s second half marker came from a Michelle Wetzel (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) assist; her first point as a collegiate midfielder.

Crosby led all of Sunday’s participants by collecting five draw controls with three ground balls and two caused turnovers to boot.  Lamarche took home the ground ball and created turnover prizes back to Loretto after scooping up a game-high five loose balls and distracting the Bobcats for three fumbles.  Lamarche also came away with one draw.

Tenderfoot Heather Tiernan (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) earned herself one loose ball and draw control apiece while freshman Kayla Hollstadt (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest), sophomores Lauren Roth (Dover, Pa./Spring Grove) and Blair Kosela (Crescent, Pa./Moon), and senior Kati Kenyon (Glenmont, N.Y./Niskayuna) each ladled one ground ball.  Junior Dana Mroczkowski (Lansing, Ohio/Bridgeport) was awarded with one draw control.  Kenyon also irritated the Bobcats for two turnovers.  Junior Corri Smeak (Frederick, Md./St. John’s) and sophomore Sarah Dittmann (State College, Pa./State College) also mixed things up through one created turnover apiece.

Greenhorn netminder Danielle Pokusa (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) got the nod in net, impeding eight shots on 30 Quinnipiac attempts.  Pokusa picked up three ground balls as well, accumulating to 17 overall on the season.

Quinnipiac jumped out to a beefy 16-0 advantage in the first half, but with just 00:30 second remaining, Crosby put away her first free-position intention to close the opening session 16-1.  QU added two more to open the second half before Lamarche grabbed the helper from Wetzel at 17:10, moving the score to 18-2.  An unassisted Bobcat bullet made its way in between Crosby’s second free-position blast with just 1:54 to go in the game.  The Cincinnati native’s goal was the final attack of the match, as the count closed out at 19-3.  QU’s Katy Delagi led the contest with three markers.  Fourteen different Bobcats found the correct side of the cage against Saint Francis.

On Friday, April 11th, Saint Francis (0-11, 0-5) fields NEC defending champions Monmouth on DeGol Field at 6pm.  Following the Hawks’ affair, the Red Flash close out their home slate with a decision coming against the Blackbirds from Long Island University at 11am on Sunday, April 13th.
