Men, Women in middle of the pack after day one at W&M

DAY ONE RESULTS

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 4, 2008) – The Saint Francis University men’s and women’s track and field teams find themselves in the middle of an 18-team field after day one of the William and Mary Colonial Invitational.  The women are tied with Delaware for ninth place with 14 points while the men find themselves in a four-way tie with Saint Joeseph’s, Pittsburgh, and UMBC with 10 points.  The host Tribe leads on both sides; the women have 68 points and the men have 60 points.

The Red Flash women owe much of their success, once again to its superlative throwing corps.  In the hammer throw Kayla Herron earned a second place finish with a heave of 52.26 meters.  Diane Gmiter wound up in fourth with a throw of 49.05 meters.

In the javelin, Lisa Morse paced the Flash with a fifth-place distance of 36.52 meters.  Cara Dinger came in sixth with a throw of 35.47m and Gmiter 35.35-meter toss was good enough for seventh place.

In men’s action, Denis Eradiri put on a typically strong performance in the long jump with a sixth-place lunge of 6.82 meters.

Highlighting the men’s throwing events, shot-putter Ben Madeira finished fourth with a throw of 15.95 meters and Josh Hazen also put on a strong showing, finishing seventh with a toss of 15.31 meters.

Jorden Davis equaled Madeira for the highest men’s finish of the day, winding up fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.83 seconds.

In the 100 meter dash, James Bush claimed SFU’s strongest showing, placing eighth with a blistering time of 10.88 seconds.

Davis and Bush each did their best impressions of a ‘red flash’ in the 200-meter dash.  Bush finished sixth with a time of 21.73 and Davis finished eighth with a time of 21.81 seconds.

Action at the William and Mary Colonial Relays continues on Saturday for both the men and women.
