Red Flash Track & Field Teams Continue Development at Golden Flash Gala

KENT, Ohio (Dec. 8, 2007) – The Saint Francis men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams came away with several top performances at Kent State’s Golden Flash Gala, which was held on Saturday.

 

At the non-scored event, sophomore Cynthia Mazurak (Hastings, Pa. / Northern Cambria) and senior Lisa Morse (Freedom, N.Y. / Pioneer Central) paced the Red Flash women’s team.

                 

Mazurak took seventh in the 500-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 25.71 seconds, and Morse finished as the runner-up in the Shot Put with a toss of 46 feet, 2 inches.

 

Several members of the Saint Francis track & field teams recorded top finishes, led by the team’s second place finish in the 4x400-meter relay and another runner-up spot by junior William Velez (Staten Island, N.Y. / Benedictine) in the High Jump.

 

Senior Ian Butcher (Georgetown, Ontario, Canada / Christ the King), senior James Bush (Baltimore, Md. / St. Francis Prep), sophomore Steven Johnson (Bristol, Pa. / Bristol) and junior Jorden Davis (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada / Loyola Catholic) took second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:16.45.

 

Velez finished second in the High Jump with a distance of 6 feet, 9 inches, and had a pair of teammates who finished back-to-back in the Long Jump and Shot Put events.

 

Senior Ardell Francis (Ewing, N.J. / Pennsbury) and Tavon Moss (Baltimore, Md. / St. Francis Prep) finished seventh and eighth in the Long Jump with distances of 21-00.00 and 20-07.25, respectively. Senior Jordan Hess (McConnellsburg, Pa. / McConnellsburg) and junior Josh Hazen (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon) then took sixth (53-09.00) and seventh (52-07.25), respectively, in the Shot Put.

 

In track events, freshman Jacob Librizzi again showed great progress as he took third in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.43 seconds. Butcher finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (49.49 seconds), and Bush (49.69 seconds) was seventh in the same event. Sophomore Ben Peacock (Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria) finished seventh in the 500-meter dash (1:11.38).
